Question:

How do i get my cat to stop peeing on the bathroom rug?

I have a 1 yr old Male, fixed, cat. He's never given me ANY problems. except lately he's been urinating on the bathroom rug.. Well, it sounds worse than it really is.. he did it once, then I washed the rug.. it was clean for a day.. then he peed on it once again. There are NO other cats in the house, the litter box IS in the bathroom. I can not scold him or correct the behavior because of the amount of time lapsed when he's gone on the rug. So he wouldn't know what he's being corrected for ( I was in Dog training) This is his only vice. :( Please help!

Answer:

hmm is it a rug around the toliet? if you have males in the house who miss their intended target it could be the cat pickin up on that scent and marking thinking there is another cat around.
Once okorder / Hey moron stick that thumbs down where the sun dont shine! Over 18,000 times to be exact this has been asked!
That's true about male humans missing the toilet...I had one bathroom rug that was getting peed on and that's what we attributed to it, it hasn't happened since my roommates moved out. I would take the rug up for now, to see if he stops. Also, spraying citrus or vinegar on it MIGHT keep him from doing it again, but if it's due to male humans missing the toilet then he will keep doing it. Again, I suggest just taking the rug up for a while. Wash it with the baking soda and vinegar.
I was told several things about the rug peeing. The rubber on the backing attacks the cat and has a smell for them to pee? We close our bathroom doors. Sometimes if we forget we get a surprise. Other issues may be UTI or bladder infection. Also you should have 1 cat box per cat and 1 extra over 2 cats. Scoop daily! Also your cat can be punishing you whatever pissed it off that day. Keep the door closed.
