Question:

How do I level my wood stove?

I have a wood burning stove that I am installing on top of a slate tile base, the slate tile is uneven, and the stove needs to be shimmed. With most other appliances or cabinets wood shims would be an obvious answer, but that appears to be a bad idea in this application. What can I use to shim with?

Answer:

Metal washers, maybe, depending how much shimming you need to do and what kind of base or feet the stove has and whether the washers will show. If they will, then I would use them anyway but find a very thin decorative piece of metal to cover them with, maybe some sheet copper. Or use bronze washers.
A thin piece of metal will work or get a stove mat from Lowe's that should fix you up.Oh the mats look better and you can shim with wood underneath it if needed.
