If you have two brackets multiplied together, multiply each term in the first bracket by each term in the second bracket: (a + b)(c + d) a(c + d) + b(c + d) ac + ad + bc + bd If you have two brackets multipled together and by a term, multiply each term in the first bracket by each term in the second bracket, then multiply each term in the bracket by the outside term: a(b + c)(d + e) a[b(d + e) + c(d + e)] a(bd + be + cd + ce) abd + abe + acd + ace
