Question:

How do I prevent my lightweight cotton rug from sliding on a hardwood floor?

I have a thin, lightweight, 3x5 rug in my room. The floor is hardwood floor (but unwaxed). It is kind of like an quot;area-fillerquot;, so my room doesn't look so empty, therefore I don't want to put anything on top of it to anchor it down. Simply walking over it causes it to slip slide and move around. What can I do to hold it in place? Do they sell anything for things like this?Thank you!

Answer:

Yes they do, but I don't know what there called, there at bed bath and Beyond, wall mart, maybe home depot too, there like a rubber material that goes under the rug and prevents it from moving. All different sizes.
you can find rolls of non slip rubber stuff at places like wal-mart or target. its usually in the kitchen section. it should help. its cheap, and it wont ruin your floor. you can also get double sided tape, that works good too, but might leave sticky residue on your floor
Uhh, they sell these rubber-like mats to put under rugs so they don't slip and slide...They normally sell them at home depot, lowe's, wal-mart, or bed bath and beyond(: choose me as best answer!
it does work good but beware! I had one and the rubber stuck to the hardwood floor after 1 summer had passed. It took me FOREVER to get it off the wood. Try attaching small piece to each corner of the rug instead of using one solid piece.
Any flooring store or home center has these special thin mas that are used under rugs.. They seam tacky , but leave no residue. And when they get dirty naturally you toss then ib the washer and the tackiness comes back to reuse.. One CAUTION.. Get only the one meant for rugs over wood. Don t get the rubber mats that are sold in housewares, these can stain the wood. These are special for 2 reasons.. They allow the wood to breathe and they will not stain or discolor the wood if you have a oil based urethane on them.. GL
