Question:

How do I reduce the noise in a cb radio?

I have a cobra 21 LTD WX classic radio hooked up to a 4 foot whip in my 96 rangerThe radio is usually silent as far as noise goes until I pass a certain house nearby, A grain elevator, and a 2 mile stretch of road outside a townThe only thing I can figure is something to do with the power lines overheadWhen I pass by them, the noise jumps up to the point I have to turn the squelch up 3/4 to the rightI know it isn't engine related because it doesn't so it all the time the truck is runningWhat would make the radio do this? My dad has the same problem in the same areas as me in his F550I don't know his radio model but he also has 4 foot whipsNeither have been tuned with a SWR meter, would that be the problem?

Answer:

to answer your question on interference in certain areas you will get that in any town and any placeradio waves are electromagnetic and can be interfered by any other electromagnetic signal, power lines, etcswr does not effect receive ONLY transmitswr stands for standing wave ratioit its the power that is reflected back to the radioa high swr will effete radio transmit performance big timein my opinion anything over 1.5 is bad newsbut yes get your swr checkedyou can do it your selfnow back to your interference problem you can 1 live with it and dont drive around that area or 2 try a rf choke and last but not least power line interference only gets worse when it snows or rains and soaks the inside of a transformer.
A dog's normal temperature is 101-102.5 FahrenheitYour dog likely is not coughing because it is too cold in your houseHe is probably ill with something like Kennel CoughTake him in to your vet for an exam, they can give you a cough suppressant to keep him more comfortable and an antibiotic to make sure it does not progress to pneumonia if it is Kennel Cough, or diagnose him properly if it's something else (Heartworm and heart failure are two other possibilities, though there are multiple other possible causes).
a dogs temp can range anywhere from like 98 to 102.5 degreesand if hes coughing he could be getting something like kennel cough or pnuemoniaor even canine influenzamight have to go to the vet!
