Hi watches come in two types mechanical and battery operated. the mechanical need to be wound either with the winder on the side or by a weight which moves inside the watch when you move. the rest are all battery they use both an analogue display in the form of hands which rotate around a dial. or a digital display which shows the time as figures that change. some have both hands and digits but they do need the power from a battery some even have solar panel built in which drives the mechanisms also. quartz is the means by which accurate time is measured and generated.
