how do you calculate the start up current on a 3 phase ac motor?
Look for the motor Type listed on the nameplate. Each US motor type has a corresponding locked rotor KVA in the National Electric code. Starting current = locked rotor KVA/voltage.
i don't know how you would calculate it but the NEC has tables in article 430 that give standard values for different types of motors. perhaps that could help you.
