Question:

How do you find the ampage rating for crimp connectors?

I have 3 colours red, blue and yellow, I would like to know what the ampage rating of theese connectors, I have checked for the rating printed/imbossed on the side but no luck! Thanks!

Answer:

The current rating for the crimp connectors is the same as the wire size they are made for.
The different colors on the crimp connectors is so you crimp the yellow connector with the yellow crimp notch on the hand crimper. The reason is, if you crimp a yellow connector in the red notch of the crimper, it will squeeze it too tight. Too tight of a crimp will damage the plastic insulation on the connector. If you crimp a red one in the yellow notch, the crimp will be too loose.
standard colors for crimp connectors: red 22 -16 AWG blue 16 - 14 AWG yellow 12-10 AWG
Colors vary with the manufacturer of the connectors. You need to go by the size of the connector. The ones for 14 guage are 15 amp, the ones for 12 guage are 20 amp. the onese for 10 guage are 30 amp. 8 guage are 40 50 amp.
