I have never washed a winter rug and my horses really needs doing but I'm not quite sure how !?Dry cleaners ?In the bath tub? (by hand) The washing machine looks to small... and I do not want to wreck it !!!Thankkss xx
ive never actually washed any of my rugs, but i hose down my saddle blankets. yo could always waterblast it, thatd be sure to get the hair out. if i out even a small saddleblanket in the washign machine, there seems to be hair on anythign that comes out of the machine for the next few washes. so i wouldnt put the rug in anything that isnt used solely for horse supplies
If it has any tears in it, I send it to a professional cleaner/repair person. If not, I take it to a laundromat. They have very large ones. The one I go to set aside a group of washers/dryers just for horse blankets since there are so many horse people in the area.
You've got two choices: 1. Go to the laundromat and use an industrial-sized washing machine OR 2. Find an equine laundry service (here in Kansas, we use The Kept Horse) Good luck :)
Im lucky our dry cleaner has very large front load washing machines that take them quite well. Although you can never get them perfect I wash them in the hottest water available. I do not care about color washing out. I want them clean. I also use either a blanket cleaner or I just buy the soap for infants that way it does not irritate their skin next winter. But before I take them I usually leave them over a fence during the spring rain to help wash as much of both sides. I usually rotate between big storms to clean both sides. I also don't want my care to smell to bad. I love horses but my job requires taking people around in my car. Just my 2 cents.
We send them off to be cleaned by a professional. Things like travel boots, bandages, fleece rugs and tail guards go in our washing machine at home. We put the buckles into a girth buckle bag (usually get them when you bug a girth) so that the machine isn't damaged and so they don't make loads of noise.
