Honestly, it usually takes me 2 people unless you have a patient horse who'll stand still! I usually measure with a rope or baling twine that I've tied together, just make sure you mark it clearly.! Measure from the center of the horse's chest- OVER the largest part of the shoulder ( it has a tendency to want to slide over or under it, but you have to hold it ON IT)- OVER the belly - OVER the largest part of the horse's hip- and then to the center of the tail/buttocksIf you measure with rope or twine just use a regular metal measuring tape to get the inchesAlways go up an inch if your horse is inbetween!
