I have no idea, what the efficiency rating is for your unit, but you can bet the farm, that it's not as efficient as today's units. Most likely, in the 70% range. You may do better replacing this, as at it's age, it's most likely less efficient now, than when it was new. Of course, I'm sure these things aren't cheap to replace, so depending on your bills, and how long you will own the home, will decide, whether or not it will pay you to replace it. You will get your money back, but it may take a few years to do so. This you can count on though, energy prices will continue to climb. Which will mean, it will take much less time to recoup your costs, for that replacement.
