My dog is pregnant and i took a rectal temperature and I know the normal temperature should be around 100.2 but my dogs was 99.8 when i just took itDoes that mean she is goin into labor? Her temperature is a tad low, just check it again in a few hoursIt should be around 101.5F, that is normal healthy temperature for a dogBut it will drop to around 99F when she is about to have her puppiesYou can, although it is not necessary to shave her bellyIt might just stress her out and most dogs will make sure the pups get what they need when they need itMake sure she has a place to go that is quiet and secluded and makes her feel safeIf you have a kennel for her put it in a quiet area of your house and throw a blanket over it to cover three of the sides and the top, making it feel more like a den for herLeave the door open and throw a couple blankets or towels in it that you don't care about getting ruinedWhen she is going into labor she will spend a lot of time in her den and she will walk in circles and push the towels or blankets around as she sees fitJust keep an eye on her when she is in labor but don't bother her unless she seems to be having a LOT of trouble with itMost dogs know by instinct exactly what to do when the are having puppiesShe will break the sac that covers each individual puppy and she will lick the puppy clean, and fuss over it for a couple minutesShe will eat the afterbirth from each puppy, gross but it provides a TON of nutrients for her milk for the pupsIt could take several hours for her to birth all of the puppies, but it could all be over in an hour or lessIt all depends on the dog, the number of puppies, and the size of the puppies Trust her though, she likely will know just what to do.
