how is a pap smear preformed?????
The vagina is opened with a special examining instrument called a speculum and the examiner scrapes the mucus on the opening of the cervix with a plastic or wooden tool. Then the mucus is transferred to a glass microscope slide. The slide is sent to a lab where it is stained with some special stains and then examined under a microscope by a trained technologist.
