They make helmets of polycarbonate, light and strong. But metal machines better and casts to more complex shapes.
It's a box cover, to hide a junction box where a light or fan had been installed, then removed.
I lived in a house with oil heating - if you are smart about your temperature and consumption it's not that terrible. During the entire NJ winter last year we filled up our oil tank only 1 and a half times. The trick is knowing when you need to refill your tank and getting oil before you desperately need it. We filled ours up once before the winter at a low cost adn then our next refill only took about 1/2 and we did that mid winter. The company we used also gave us coupons for money off every so many gallons we purchased. Ask the homeowners that live there now how they like and the pros/cons of it. Ask about how much they pay to fill it each winter and their median temperature in the house. (Just fry the house i lived in was very old and had a few drafts which we solved using draft dodgers from Target)
Magnesium Alloy is basically metal, while polycarbonate resin is plastic. Both are very durable. The advantage of Magnesium Alloy is that it will never crack when dropped, it feels reassuringly heavy in your hands, and cameras with a magnesium alloy body usually have weather-sealing as well to keep out water and dirt. The disadvantage is that it may be TOO heavy, and that it will dent when dropped. The advantage of Polycarbonate is that its lightweight, very durable, and bounces back to shape when dropped. The disadvantage is that when dropped to hard, polycarbonate will crack or shatter.
