I am looking at getting some new carpeting for my home, how much does carpet usually cost? I am guessing they figure it out by square foot and which type of carpet that you want...but just a round about answer, how much is carpet per square foot?

Round, average carpet will be around 3./3.50$ a s/f. This isn t fancy and not the cheapest... This is an installed price with pad ( 5 1/2# minimum) and standard installation. Won t cover rip out and disposal of the old. This is just a general price to get you an idea.. And your right.. carpet is only sold in the s/f format..
