We have a roughly 12' x 10' room we'd like to remove the ceiling from and open it up to the sloping roof above (probably 3-5' above)About how much should that cost, including extending the walls up to the roof? What's the best way to add insulation to the underside of the roof (it's southern California, so not much needed)?
I've always decorated my boys rooms with primary colorsWell, just bright bold colorsStimulates the brainI'd stay away from pastels for sure.
I would avoid cartoon charactors.they grow out of that too fastWhat is he into? For example if he is into fish, make his room look like a big fish bowl I agree that bright colors are best for childrenIt is very stimulating for themBut, since you say he is very active, if bedtime is a problem maybe more muted colors would be your best bet.
follow the theme of his comforter and room accessoriesif he has mainly reds and dark blues, then maybe a nautical painting would workbottom line.you need to find out what his bedroom looks like, so the painting will work in his spacetake care!
I would do it in colors like blue, red, green, and yellow for a boyMaybe using trucks and cars or sports as a themeI have a girl so I have no experience with boys but a lot of my friends have boys and that is how their rooms are decorated.
There are a lot of considerations that would impact on the final cost of this projectOne major one would be that there are bound to be various electrical wires running through the attic space that will have to be relocated by a qualified electrician before any work is doneExisting insulation, if any, will have to be removedRemoving the ceiling joists above your bedroom will almost certainly have an impact of the structural integrity of the house and you will most likely need to have a structural support inserted to remedy that(Unless you are leaving the joists in place.) Adding insulation is something any qualified person can do, and will be fairly simple if your roof is of standard construction.
