I ordered an area rug online but the dimensions are a little off...I'm wondering if I can just cut it to make it fit? If so, how would I go about doing this so that it will cut evenly and all the way through (what kinds of tools, etc could I use)? Also, any suggestions on how I can keep the ends from fraying after its cut? Thanks so much!!
I live in Phoenix and I took a large piece of carpet out of an unused bedroom and to it to Home Depot and gave them the dimensions I wanted it to be. They cut it and bound the edges beautifully. I now use it under my dining room table. Call around to carpet dealers. Don't try it yourself.
a ruler , you can use duck tape before you cut to hold the fibers together for a minute, then use glue the base of the fibers to keep them together ~ see i told you so :)
Call a flooring store and ask for a carpet remnant. They are the leftover pieces of carpet from when they install it in people's houses. It shouldn't cost as much since it is basically scraps.
First call your area flooring store s and ask if they do or have access to some one that binds area rugs, most do. Once a place is found you have a choice of cutting the rug your self or they ll do it. If you want to do it, all you need it a straight edge and a new blade in a utility knife. Turn the rug over and cut from the back, placing the straight edge where you want it and cut along it. Make sure your cutting over something that won t either dull the knife or you cut something that is under the rug. The new binding may or may not match, if the place has access to binding, they ll have a color chart. Plus they ll be able to tell you if its bound or surged , which costs more.
