You can separate materials by their compositionsYou pointed this outFor example, take an empty box or container and place all the HDPE recyclables in itFind another box/container and place all the PETE materialsPlace cardboard and paper together I would organize them so that they only need to be recycled when the containers/boxes are full, or nearing fullI don't believe it makes sense to take them every week unless it is necessaryI hope this helps and gets you thinking in the right direction.
Check for some recycling done by your city governmentMany cities have areas for recycling(not dumping) and have specialized containers you can keep and fill at homeYou could do your whole neighborhood.
