How do I Eliminate Cat Urine Odors in carpet
Wow 11 cats is a lot. I think since the order is eye watering the only option is to put new carpet in. Or you can try professional carpet cleaning. Good luck
Eliminate the cat. That's what. There are several ways of achieving this. Here are a few suggestions. 1. Wrap it in bubblewrap, put it in a jiffy-bag, and post it to Nova Scotia. 2. Tie it down in an armchair and make it watch endless repeats of Golf tournaments. It'll die of boredom. 3. Put it in a small basket, and attach the basket to a helium balloon. Release it from your back garden and watch it float in the general direction of Moscow. 4. Seal it inside a large Tupperware box and place said box in the freezer. 5. Wrap the cat up in the urine soaked carpet and give it a taste of its' own medicine. 6. Buy a Tasmanian Devil, and lock them both in the toilet for an hour. There. Simple isn't it?
Well, my solution was to get rid of all the carpets in the house, and just have washable cotton mats at the doors, in the bathrooms, and in the kitchen. You live with cats, you don't live with broadloom. However, there are products out there that can be used. Check with your local pet store, or with your vet, or, even with a local cleaning company - especially one that cleans apartments, and find out what they are using. The other thing you have to do is figure out why the cat is not using the litter box, and is going to the carpet. If there is no health problem, the number one suspect is that the litter box is not kept spotlessly clean for your cat(s). Good luck.
Don't waste your time on trying to clean out the stench. Nothing works to get that horrible odor out, and some cleaning products will react with the highly acidic cat urine and simply add a chemical smell which will enhance the odor. Your best bet is to replace the carpet. If you cannot replace the carpet, the second best thing to do is cover the area with a rug or leftover pieces of carpet until that area of carpet can be replaced.
Pull up the carpet and check the subfloor. If the subfloor is stained/smelly, you'll need to seal that up. Then put the carpet back and soak the stain with an enzymatic cleaner (Nature's Miracle or something). Let it soak for a few minutes, then blot up as much liquid as you can with with a clean towel or something. If you have a carpet shampooer, even better. Repeat if needed.
