Question:

How to Mark Breaks on a Stripboard??? 10 POINTS?

I‘m building a circuit which will require a stripboard 13 rows × 18 holes. but this is the first time im using one. I am using a 4060B IC and the schematic shows that i need some BREAKS in certain area which is marked with an X. my question is how do i make one??? am i supposed to scratch off some of the copper from underneath the board on where the X is???? PLEASE HELP.thanks

Answer:

a small sharp knife to cut the track is all you need. If you cut in the wrong place you can fix it with a small amount of solder.
That's right. You cut a narrow slice out of the copper strip, to divide it into separate strips on each side of the cut. A sharp Exacto knife works, but a scoring knife, designed to be pulled across a surface, to groove plastic sheeting so it can be snapper into pieces, works very well, also. You can probably find one of these at Home Depot or Lowes building supply stores. You can also use a small dental type cutter with a Dremel tool to cut through the copper strips. Edit: I find it helpful to mark every cut with a fine point indelible marker (Sharpie) so that the entire board can be checked against the design before any cuts are made. Having the copper painted black also makes it easier to see when you have removed a sliver of copper. -- Regards, John Popelish
