Honestly the Ak-47 is by far the best and possibly the perfect military rifle made to dateFor one it has been used by dozens of countries for almost 60 years and WILL be used in combat for many more years to comeThe people who say the AK47 has terrible accuracy have probally never even held oneYeah, you wont get perfect groupings but let's face it the AK is a military rifle designed to kill peopleI can easily shoot pie-plate sized targets at 100yards with mine, so hitting a person at 100+ yards would be easy for any soldierThe AK has been proven by the sheer amount of service and people that have used it.
urbansurvivor the mini14 isn't an assault rifle.it's a rough miniature look alike (in some ways) of an M14 but uses the exact same ammunition as the M16.5.56mm or .223.oops sorry.didn't know they made a mini14 in 7.62mm (.308).i stand corrected I don't know what's best.been trying to figure that out myselfI've got plenty of experience with an M16 (before they were limited to 3rd bursts) and while I don't agree with complaints about reliabilitry, I still feel the round was too lightI have no experience with an AK47 but everyone says thats the one to get.personally I don't trust some of the countries of originIf i could get my ideal it would be a shorter barreled, lighter wtusing an M14 style action, with a 30 rd bananaStill theres the problem of humping the ammoIn nam I carried 30 magazines fully loaded for M16.with 7.62mm ammo that would weigh a tontechnically though an M14 wasnt an assault rifle.it was a battle rifle so that would have to be out as far as answering your question.maybe an HK though I've never used one.
The AK's have it to meThey're not that accurate (3-4 moa is average for most of them, or about 3-4 groups at 100 yds)But the thing is, in a firefight, you're not shooting at dimes, you're shooting at PEOPLE, and they're shooting back so you're not going to be shooting very straight anywayEver see footage from Vietnam? They didn't take time and plink enemies away with single rounds, they hid in ditches and raised their rifles over the ditch and emptied off a clip, never even seeing where they were shootingPlus it WON'T jamI own a Chinese AK (mak-90 sporter), and it has never jammedPlus most engagements are well within 200 yards, which about as far as you'd trust an AK anywayTheir bigger bullet does more damage than full metal jacketed .223 rounds (as they go straight through the target, so most of their energy is not put into the person, but what it hits AFTER the person)A 7.62x39 round is more likely to release more of its energy in the body it hits, and it has a tendency to knock victims flat on their back.
