Question:

How to wash a rug...?

So does anyone know how to properly wash a rug. A living room sized rug.... 8x10... without damaging it or anything? My darling 2 y/o has spilt plenty of things on it and it's time for a washing!

Answer:

i had this problem alot too, we eventually moved to a house with hardwood flloors in the living room (alot easier), but we invested in a steam cleaner for our carpets, running that every other month (for our family of 4) did the trick. or you can rent a Rug Dr. their great for cleaning carpets.
Contact a professional carpet cleaner - some rug stores offer rug cleaning services, too... or, use in-home carpet cleansers with a soft brush?
Yes, you can wash bathroom rugs. But make sure you do it on the gentle cycle. It might say also delicate cycle or handwashables. That's how I always washed mine and then dryed it and it turned out fine. But this weekend I put it in the normal cycle (which spins kind of fast), and then when I went to take it out and to put it in the dryer, the sides were torn apart. Haha. It was kind of funny, any way it was time to get a new one, since I had that one for like 4 years. So now I bought a new one. Hope this helped.
I used to take my area rugs to my local chem-dry they'd clean them. I don't think there is a machine large enough to handle an 8x10 rug. Best of luck to you!
Pretreat all the spots and then rent a carpet steam cleaner. They work very well!
