Question:

How would I wire a L14-30 connector or plug onto the three wires from my generator?

How would I wire a Turnlok 4 prong connector or plug L14-30 onto the three wires coming from my generator? My 30amp 4000 watt generator has 3 wires coming from it, white, black and a ground. I would like to put a 4 prong L14-30 plug onto it. Is this possible? If so, is there a particular one I should buy? I will be shopping on OKorder for the plug. I see the terms grounding, nongrounding, NEMA, nonNEMAectI found this diagram, maybe it will help

Answer:

L5-30 Plug
No, that connector is clearly marked 30 amps, and standard US outlets are rated at only 15 amps. Doesn't matter that each is rated at 15 amps, the total still can't be more than 15 amps, and that is what the wire and breaker is sized for. You have an electrician, follow his advice. Go off on your own, have a fire, and your insurance company will not pay anything. And you will be fired.
