If it's a newer one I don't see a problem with sleeping with it on I do it all of the time with ours in the winter. Ours has a 8 hour timer on it so it automatically shuts off so it doesn't accidentally get left on all day long without knowing it. If it doesn't have auto shut off make sure to unplug it in the morning.
Install a police scanner in your car and when you are passed by an emergency vehicle, listen to the scanner to see where everyone is going then if you get stuck at a red light that the ambulance or whatever goes through, you can figure out where they're going and show up a little later, but without causing an accident. It may be illegal, but how are they going to prove you were following them? I also enjoy doing this I'm always curious where they're going.
