I would love to have a hardwood floor in my room. My family does not have a lot of money. Does anyone know of a website where I can purchase cheap hardwood flooring material?
Visit a local auction. There's plenty there.
Here's what I did - it's unconventional, but its cheap and has worked great for me. Your floor surface needs to be level and you should have access to a table saw. I bought 4' X 8' sheets of 3/8 oak veneer panels. Laid complete panels on the floor, cut to fit, used liquid nails to glue them to the subfloor and then tiny finishing nails evenly spaced around the edges. Then a couple coats of a light varnish and sealer. It looks great. With an area rug in the center of the room, most people won't even guess that's not a 'real' oak floor. Be a little more careful when moving heavy furniture, etc. on it though. If you gouge it, you'll go right through the veneer pretty easily.
