Question:

i am on my second foodsaver machine?

and this last one is again giving me problems with the vacuum part, the sealing works but not the vacuum, anyone else have this problem and did you solve it?

Answer:

you can buy several silver and brass cleaners at any store really, even the grocery stor has themI often use one called Twinkle However, I recently heard that fizzy stuff that is made for cleaning dentures( I think it is called Efferdent)works really wellJust drop the fizzy tablets in a cup of water and drop in your silver or gold ringsIt cleans all of the icky gunk out of the crevices on the ring, and makes it all sparkly Good luck!
They sell jewelery cleaner, you can get it at any jeweler or Target or Wall martIt does a great jobYou could try baking soda and a little water, and make a paste Rub that on the ring, leave it for awhile and then rinse it off and buff it with a soft clothYou might want to do it again.
My wife always uses sterling silver ring cleanerit seems to work really well.
Go to Walmart in the jewelry department, and pick up the liquid sterling silver cleanerI believe it is in a silver containerYou drop your ring in for 15 seconds{it has a little basket inside with a post to drop rings onTake it out of the solution, run it under warm water for a couple of seconds, and dry offYou may have to do it twice, if it's really tarnishedI also use a small[like baby toothbrush] to clean inside the inner part of the ring and any parts with scroll work or designs etcYour can use a q-tip instead of a toothbrushAlso, you may want to rub it for a few minutes while your drying it off, best with like a terry cloth towelThe solution tells you to be careful of semi-precious {or soft gem stones} but I have never had a problem with any of mine and I have stones like Onyx Pink Quartz, Topaz, cz, and Mother of Pearl and Mystic Fire TopazNever has hurt any of mine, just makes them shine!
I am assuming that the vacuum pump is runningI had a small leak in the rubber seal where you place the bag, and it wasn't giving proper vacuum before the seal was doneLook at the rubber seal and make sure that it does not have any nicks or areas where it can leakBe sure also to place the edge of the bag only about halfway into the oval area formed by the seal - if you bridge the seal, it will not properly suck a vacuum on the bagIf all of these things don't solve your problem, take the bottom off and look at the hose connections to the vacuum pump - there could be a loose connection thereI hope this helps.
