One of my rabbit's is short haired, but the other one has very long fluffI've missed the current shedding season, but next shedding I'd like to make some yarnI've never done this before, so how should I go about collecting it, and how do I make it into yarn?
You will need some basic equipmentYou'll need a comb to remove the loose hair from your rabbit, then a couple of carding combs to get it more or less all going in the same direction, and then a drop spindle, at leastA drop spindle is about the simplest and cheapest way to spin fiber into yarnDrop spindles are pretty easy to make, but you can also buy them premade if woodcrafting isn't your thingIs your longhaired bun an angora? If so, then that's the very best kind to spin, but even if it's not, you might enjoy some spinningWhether your bun is an angora or not, you might want to blend some (sheep's) wool into the fur, because just one bun isn't going to produce that much fluffI mean, I've got cats, and I know how the fur APPEARS to be filling up the house, but once you card and spin it, there's not going to be much yarn at the end of it all.
Your rabbit certainly shouldn't die from insulation exposureWhile most types of insulation can make you itch or cough, they are only dangerous if anyone has prolonged exposure to itUsually in terms of years of working around it without a proper mask or something on Wash off the rabbit, close the door, and everybody should live just fine Hope this helps!
