Question:

I got a rug from an abandoned house that had fleas. The house has no heat. Are fleas still in the rug?

So the rug has been in a very cold house. Are fleas still a problem or do they die in the winter?

Answer:

Yes, the eggs can be dormant for years and a vibration will hatch them.. Yes, It does still have fleas..
Without heat fleas tend to mutate. You now have super fleas. Burn the rug, burn the house, and sell your dogs or anything that may carry the fleas. You have been warned...
If the house had fleas...then the rug most likely still has fleas, or at least flea eggs. flea eggs hatch....
Well fleas are hard to get rid of. But if I were you I would do some research about fleas from your area and see how long they last in a cold place or any flea.
yes, the rug still has fleas. If it has been below freezing the fleas are dead but the eggs are still viable. As the eggs warm up to around 70, they will hatch in 7-10 days. Just wash the rug before bringing it into your house. If you have not washed it yet, you may have to treat your house in a week. 1 flea can lay 600 eggs nd in 7-10 days, depending on the temperature, the eggs hatch. In 7-10 days the 600 fleas will hatch and a wee later they will each lay 600 eggs.
