I recently had a new catalytic converter and exhaust system installed so what problem could this be?

One is before the catalytic converter and there is one after the catalytic converter. These sensors control fuel mixture by reading the flow and gases that remain before and after the catalytic. There are strict requirements where to place these sensors in the exhaust steam especially in CA. Any changes must be corrected in the computer. Some small shops are not aware of the this detail. Bottom line your car should still run fine, but since is says you have reduced flow, you probably notice you have reduced power. If this concerns you then you should go back to the shop where you had the work done and request it be corrected. You had to sign a contract when you had the work completed so before embarrassing your self, check the detail referring to o2 replacement and catalyst quality and pricing. You will probably have to spend a little bit more money. Before having any work done have them plug you in to the engine diagnostic computer. That usually narrows it down to the exact part at fault in this case.
