Question:

I have a concrete floor in my man caveWhats a cost effective way to put down some kinds of barrier for cold?

I have a detached garageI made a 16X14 man cave bar areaThe floor is concrete slab with a garage doorIm thinking of putting laminate plywood and cellulose insulation then plywood for attic spaceI have a 1500 watt oil filled heater from HDDosent seem to get the place warm if its 40 or less outI know a kerosene heater would help but I didn't want to deal with burn off gasesSo the ceiling is open the floor is bareI still get some water from under the door in heavy rainsNeed a game planIm going with the thinner boards because they look nice with a white wash and Im doing it all on my ownIm even just thinking of poly boardsThough I don't think they will support the cellulose.

Answer:

use 1/4 inch or 3/8ths plywood for the ceiling so it will support the insulation above the M-cave and you will be much better off to use a pad and berber carpet [[ that stuff can be purchased at one of the hardware giants and it goes down quicker and with a pad will insulate the floor much better than some wood or synthetic plastic flooring [[ the laminate will be just as cold as the concrete because the garage floor is not as thick as the slab inside the house ]] if you do not feel that the rafters in the attic are adequate to support the ceiling applications then it would be wise to add some cross 2X6's and if you panel the walls you don't have to paint and the ceiling plywood can be painted while on the floor or some saw-hosses in the backyard [ touch up after applied to the ceiling ] .
