Question:

I have a double faced insulation in my atticIt has foil as the double facing can I add over the top of it?

The insulation is probably only about 6 thickWhat would be the best way to add more.

Answer:

1s^2 2s^2 2p^6 3s^2 3p^1 It is .3s^2 3p^1and not .3s^3because the S sub-shell can only hold 2 electrons.
The s energy level can only hold 2 electrons2s^2 means the 2s energy level has 2 electrons3s^3 means the 3s energy level has 3 electrons and that will not happen.
Typically, the foil facing is going to act as a radiant barrier until it gets to dusty to properly reflect heat transferIt is probably too dusty to be doing any good if it is older then about 5 yearsIf that is the case, adding insulation over the top would be the best betLoose fill blown in fiberglass is actually cheaper then trying to lay in batt type insulation on your own and will always cover betterThat is, it will not leave any gaps or missed areas that are typical with batt type insulation Check with the Department of Energy to find out the recommended R-Value for your climateTypically, 6 inches of batt insulation is an R19 You might also want to look at your attic ventilation since that typically will have a large effect on the insulationBasically, the more moisture in the attic and hence, the insulation, the less the insulation works for youMoisture and humidity will reduce the effective R value of the insulation Good luck
