Question:

I have a dress thats 97% polyester and 3% spandex - will it shrink in the wash?

It says dry clean only, but its stretched out a little and I want it to return back to its first size. If i send it to the cleaners will it shrink back?Basically I‘d like to know what these two materials mean in terms of washing.

Answer:

Polyester content is more, so definitely the dress will not shrink. The dry cleaning instructions may be for the colour. Try washing a bit of the corner, a tiny bit, with soap, and see what happens.does the cloth go out of shape or does the colour run? Many ready made garments just stick the dry cleaning instructions. These cleaning instructions labels are mass manufactured and not much thought is given to the kind of garment before the labels are stuck on. So the dry cleaning instructions may not specifically pertain to your dress. But as I said, try soap and water on a tiny bit of the dress first.
neither polyester nor spandex is shrinkable, not are they dry-clean only?? both will expand, but should retain their shape after being washed.why this is labelled as dry clean only may have something to do with the way they've been stitched up;; you can take it up with your dry cleaner's.esp for someone with experience, like the owner, or manager
