Given your description is accurate, the woman in question would have a case for discrimination under the Civil Rights Act of 1964. Title VII explicitly states that an establishment must have at least 15 employees to be subjected to this, I am not sure if it is applicable to the entire act. I believe that it is illegal for any establishment to have religious qualifications for employment, outside of designated religious organizations. Where the discrepancy lies is if the state will define Scientology as religious. If so, if the book has any reference to dianetics, than it may not be considered discrimantory. My advice: if she pursues the lawsuit, have a good lawyer.
