Question:

I have ceramic braces. Should I switch?

Im 14, and all my friends have gotten their braces on and off. I needed braces. I just got ceramic braces a few days ago. I chose them because ill probably have them through freshman year, and these are less noticeable. I have been looking up about them, and everyone says they stain easily, take longer, look gross, and stick the your teeth. Are these things true? Should I ask my orthodontist to switch to metal? I think they look better, but will they stay that away. If I take care of them, do these things even matter? Thanks.

Answer:

Nah, may as well stick with ceramic. The braces themselves don't stain, it's just the ligatures, and if you're just careful about what you eat, it'll be fine. Plus, you can wear light grey ligatures, which aren't AS subtle as clear, but they're actually alright and don't stain as badly. The difference in speed isn't significant. Don't pay attention to that, okay? It's really not an issue. And personally, I don't think they look gross unless you stain the ligs, so just avoid doing that and they'll be fine. I'm not sure what you mean about sticking to your teeth. They're a little harder to remove, but you'll be so happy to be getting them off that it doesn't matter, haha. If I were you, I'd stick with ceramic braces. If you take care of them, they'll be great. :)
