Question:

I inherited a white porcelain pitcher & wash basin from a Swedish family that came here in the early 1900's.

It has a gold line around the top of the wash basin & the pitcher lip & handle. Would like to know how much it's worth. Any procelain antique dealers out there? It does have some markings on the bottom of the pitcher & the basin. Not sure if this is the right category for this question. Couldn't figure any other place to put it!

Answer:

Ask an antique dealer
Value will depends on several things. Have you checked it for chips or any damage? Does it have a makers mark anywhere? Has it been discolored? A item can be worth $1000 mint, or $50 damaged. Check it out really closely,
Try looking at a Warmus guide to Antiques & Collectibles ; which can be found in most libraries ; or walk into any antique shop and ask .
mar m: He is asking an antique dealer right now by asking if any know it. I would guess a couple hundred at least. My family descends from a couple Swedish brother and I have similar items, different, but similar. They were appraised at around $800-$1000. Not a guarantee, but I don't know if that was a good estimate or not. (I just took it to a dealer downtown.) Hope that helped.
There are several places on the web that can help you identify your jug and basin set. It somehow feels English to me. Take a photo of the underside of the pieces where the markings are - that will get you the best answers. There are places on the web you can go to match the markings. I have put two here for you Good luck Good luck
