Question:

I installed ubuntu linux with grub boot loader...?

Ok i have an imac with a windows partition. i also have an external hard drive to which Ubuntu has been istalled to. but the only way to load it is through running the xp partition and then before windows starts it asks me if i want to load linux or windows. but if i disconect the Extrnl HHD and try to load windows is says grub error on somthing close to that. So the only was for me to run boot windows is with the extrnl HDD connected. what i want is to get rid of the grub boot loader so i can boot windows with out having the HD connected, and also i want to be able to boot Ubuntu from the HD (its ok if i have to re-install ubuntu) straight from where you choose to boot mac or windows. please help

Answer:

making use of the linux boot cdrom or dvd you would be waiting to do the set up. the only concern you will have the flexibility to return upon is that some machines do no longer know an outdoors tension as a bootable device. regrettably 30gb won't get you very far in case you % to be waiting to do any intense artwork with linux.

right, i had this exact problem two days ago. go to google and search for a program called 'super grub disc'. Then go to downloads, and choose one of the cd images. burn it to a disc. Put the disc in a restart your system. It should boot off the CD, and then you can choose 'fix windows boot loader' or something similar. It looks quite complicated, but take it slow and read everything through. Then go back to the first screen (theres a back option in the super grub disc) and choose to boot windows. You need to delete the partitions on your external hard disk. This should sort the problem. If you aren't confident, then put ubuntuforums into google and ask this smae question there. Here is the webpage for the super grub disc. You need to go to downloads, and select one of the cd images, preferrably a newer one. sgd.howto-linux.de/?section=download good luck. i was shitting myself when i ****** my computer up with this problem.
