Question:

I lubed my bearings and loosened my wheels, now I hear a rattling noise, what can i do?

I lubed my bearings, loosened trucks, loosened my wheels, now I hear a rattling noise, wheres it coming from? Its a longboard. The wheels are made of like a rubber substance, so I dont think the problem is inside the wheels. The noise sounds metallic, so Im guessing the noise is coming from the outside wheel bolt, or the top cup washer. Can anyone experienced or knows the answer help me out? Im an amateur Please help me out. The sound gets annoying to me and my friends when i cruise.

Answer:

umm wheels arent supposed to be loose.. thats when they fall off. and you die. not a good situation if you like living
Possibility for rattling: loose chain?
Do you have bearing spacers??? They go inside the wheel between the bearings. They allow the bearings to be tightened all the way without messing up the bearing.
You've probably got the trucks too loose and are hearing the washer rattle. If you like them that soft, you should use a different compound in the bushings. The wheels should have spacers between the bearings. The spacer is required so that the bearings aren't deformed when the wheel nut is tightened.
loosened my wheels... WHY... the wheels should be tight.. the bearings allow them to spin.. the trucks should be tight/loose enough to give you steering but should not be so loose that the rubber in the trucks isn't held in place.. seems to work fine on my street luge...but I do have the trucks a bit tighter than normal... just hate the speed wobble on the luge at 50 MPH plus.... The wheels are made of like a rubber substance... that would be polyurethane. the wheels should be large diameter 70 - 100mm Diameter about 75-85 Durometer readings from them..
