Well if your main concern is reliability, the Acura has the BMW beat hands downThe BMW is a reliable choice compared to other European brands though, especially the 3 series modelIt is ranked most reliable model in BritainWhat I would be worried about in the used 3 series is who the previous owner wasBecause it is a BMW and everyone knows of their handling virtues, drivers tend to push the vehicles harder and therefore cause much more strain on the carIf you decide to go with the 3 series, make sure to look over the carfax reports for any real problems experiencedSo as I alluded to, the 3 series would be the model to get if you are looking into having a car with excellent driving characteristicsIf you just want something sporting in nature but not a hard-edge sports sedan, the TL will suffice with most cary buyersIt doesn't quite have the panache of a 3 series but to some that is a benefitThe TL isn't as loud and in your face as the 3 series isI tend to find many 3 series drivers just filled with attitude(Those that buy the car for the brand name's sake) Finally, depending on your situation and needs you should choose the appropriate modelIf you are single and younger the 3 may be the better optionI personally prefer smaller cars (I'm 22 and single) since they tend to handle better and I don't necessarily need comfortable rear seatsIf you tend to haul family or friends around get the TLAlso, if this is a commuter car, the TL would be better in my opinionI am not sure but I suspect the TL would have better gas mileageIt is a Honda after allWell I hoped this helpedIf you are siding for the Acura because of reliability but do in fact like the more compact size of the 3 series, perhaps you would consider the Acura TSXThey have excellent manual transmissions and fairly good handling characteristics:)
