Question:

I received this question from my math teacher, and we and other students have tried to figure it out, but...?

none of us can. Can you please help us? An engineer working on the Alaskan pipeline was heard to say, quot;At the time I said I could finish this section in a week, I expected to get two more bulldozers for the job. If they had left me what machines I had, I'd have been only a day behind schedule. As it is, they have taken away all my machines but one, and I'll be weeks behind schedule.quot; How many weeks was he behind schedule?

Answer:

1.5 weeks my friend
One week and five days, lol...!
you listen in class WOW i must try that some day x
If his previous number of bulldozers would have finished the job in 8 days, and 2 more would have allowed him to finish in 7, he started with 14. (14 bulldozers working for 8 days would do 112 blocks of work, and 16 working for 7 would do 112 block of work.) Therefore, when he was left with only 1 bulldozer to do it all, it would take 112 days. Subtracting the week he still had left on his schedule this would put him 15 weeks behind.
