Our mortgage has us on a very limited budget, so I bought some beautiful fabric and hand-sewed very simple curtains with a thread and needle. I put them on very basic adjustable rods that mount in the window frame.I want to make them thicker to block out light, etc. Any suggestions? I was going to buy more fabric and hand sew that on top, and I even saw that black out fabric that is especially for blocking out light, but my fabric is poly-cotton and not really heavy. We live in a warm climate so we will need some circulation from the open window.Thanks in advance for your ideas.
The tension is too tight, a lot of time there is a little push down knob that you can push down at the top of the machine, this will take some of the pressure off of the presser foot. You will need to go to a fabric store and get a heavy duty needle, even then I'm not sure your machine can handle the weight of the material. You may need to take it to a cleaners and have them alter/ make it. Also at the fabric store, they will have a list of people that can help you with this. Good luck
