WHAT DO I LOOK FOR I JUST GOT THEM A YEAR AGO. I ADOPTED THEM, DO I NEED TO PREPARE THE CAGE A CERTAIN WAY? PRIVACY? PLEASE EDUCATE ME.!!!!!
put some soft hay in the cage and put out unlimited food and water and dont mess with birds
I had two birds that had 3 cluches of eggs. Nothing unusale is needed, tho once the female is pregment, she has 1 HUGE poo a day. try to give them more grains, rice, things like that. NO AVOCADOS! but if the female starts acting weird, u might want to take her to a vet. Enjoy!
If you have a nest box then you might get them to raise some babies. Then the problem is where to get rid of the babies. If you think two make a mess you wait till you see what 6-10 will do! Seriously if you are considering raising some babies then go to the pet shop and pick up either one or both of these books and start reading. The first one is, Cockatiel Handbook Cockatiels, breeding showing and pets. You don't need to do any thing different with the birds. If you think about it I bet they were singing to each other? Put a nest box with about 4 inches of coarse wood shavings. NO CEDAR SHAVINGS!!!! When she starts sitting on the eggs count 16 days. That is when you need to make a little egg food (scrambled egg and cracker) and give them about 1/2 tsp a day. When the babies start to hatch increase this to 1tsp morning and night. Now you know just enough to get yourself in trouble with the birds. Go purchase a book from Ebay and learn how to properly take care of your birds. Also learn what to expect with babies. You need to find someone who will show you how to feed the baby cockatiels in case the parents abandon them. If they will feed them till the oldest one is three weeks old then you can hand feed them very easily. You can find good books for less than ten dollars. I find them on there all of the time.
