&I thought swimming was running through an open fire hydrant.& What does it mean?

Answer:

Replace the battery inside. It's a 9 volt battery available at almost every store. The detector is hard wired into the house wiring. Grab the detector and twist counter clockwise to disconnect and remove detector. Then remove the battery cover and replace the battery. Reverse steps to reinstall.
She should be fine. Coming from the UK I do not know the distances but if you plan to take regular check/water/hay breaks then she should be fine. To avoid the risk of arguements it might be as well to have a clear stall free between the two horses. Make sure that both are booted and bandaged and that you have spare blankets and coolers in case either one gets too hot or too cold. And plenty of hay and water. I would let both eat, whatever weight they are. It would not kill them to have hay for the entire journey to pick on. If the journey is really long and they both load well enough you could consider breaking the journey and pulling off the road to get them out for a few minutes stretch and trailer muck out, but if they do not load well and you are on your own, perhaps the best thing would be to press on with one hour stops to check they are okay and comfortable. I wish the mare a happy retirement and wish you a happy and healthy 2011 and a stress free journey!
