Question:

I used an old wiring harness to make an extention cord?

I cut the wiring harness out of an old car. After peeling the wrapping insulation off I connected the matching wires with but connectors. I then placed electrical tape around the splices and put heat shrink tubing over the tape. I bought 2 grounded plugs and connected the wires one at a time to make sure they went to the correct screws. (the wires were green, purple, and yellow rather than black, white, and green) The cord works properly and indicates a ground. Is it safe?

Answer:

that all depends on the Gauge and type of wire that you are using and the load that it will be used in. i think that i would use the proper extension cord.
definite, it is going to likely be, as long as that's a physically powerful high quality one able to carrying the present the treadmill desires. inspect the wattage of the treadmill, and make certain the extension twine is rated intense sufficient. keep it as short as a danger.
You okorder
actually it depends on what you plug into it, and how much amps whatever you are using draws, how to find out is plug something in and see if the cord you made starts getting hot. luke warm ok, hot, or super hot and smoking is really a bad plan, It all depends on how thick the bundle is and how much power is being pulled through the cord. And like I already said HEAT IS THE BIG PROBLEM, THATS WHAT STARTS FIRES the wires overheat, get hot, liquify the insulation, short, catch fire and its over.
