Steel doors are nice because of security but they're insulated as well. This pays off in less heat loss/gain.
The door is only as good as the door frame. Metal doors are nice but if the frame is wood or cheaply built then the door can be easily kicked in.
If you're seriously concerned about security, then don't get a steel door that's half glass, (big window on top). They look nice, but it can be broken. A small window on top, with a peep hole in the middle of the door works well, lets in some light, but keeps intruders out. They can break the glass but they can't reach the knob to unlock the door. Deadbolt is a must and make sure the latch plates are securely set into the door frame, which must be of good construction. I've seen lots of steel doors where the wooden outer frame was kicked in from the outside, and it broke the wood right out.
Metal doors are definitely worth the money for security purposes. Also, don't forget the deadbolts!
