Question:

I want my chairs to slide easier?

I have heavy aluminium chairs around a table on my outdoor patio, see http://www.norths .za/cat6.php?catID=7 My patio floor comprises unglazed tile, and the chairs are hard to pull out to sit on and once seated, to slide toward the table. The ends of the legs are round +- 18mm (3/4 inches). I have tried felt pads - no good - they wear away in days. I have tried hard plastic caps - a little better - but still difficult to move. What can I do to allow the chairs to slide easily.

Answer:

Have you considered casters(rollers) They should be available for 3/4 legs.
Look for the sliders at WalMart or equivalent. They have some that glue on, screw on, etc. They are excellent. I put them on my heavy furniture and I can move it easily to clean-glue on ones.
might try a tennis ball on each chair leg, cut an X on the top of the ball and insert the chair leg. works well on walkers for older people.
Nylon chair glides would probably be your best bet. I just tiled our kitchen area and bought these for oak dining room chairs. I don't know if they have them for metal chairs. Check Home Depot or one of the other home improvement stores.
