I am just curious. If automatic transmissions are easy, why do manufacturers make cars with manual transmissions.
Easy can also be synonymous with boring, depending upon how the manufacturer programs it. Some automatic transmissions have a computer that learns how you drive, but if you normally drive for economy and then need or want performance in a certain situation, they can be slow to respond. The 6-speed automatic on a work truck is like that, but fortunately it has a transmission switch for trailer towing, which I consider sport mode when I need it to downshift easier or hold gears longer when preparing to pass. And some of us compete with our cars (maybe just against the clock, in parking lot slaloms, or on a road racing track). And automatic transmission cannot anticipate what you are going to do next, and you need to be in the right gear coming out of a turn for optimum acceleration. And while almost all automatics have a manual mode, most of them still have a torque converter which wastes some energy. Dual clutch automatic transmissions can be just as efficient as a manual, and with paddle switches on the steering wheel can manually shift quicker than you can, but they are more expensive, so not many cars have them. So it is somewhat a matter of perceived performance and being able to control what an electronic brain cannot anticipate you are about to want to do. And it is more fun if you know how.
If you don't know, then don't buy the bike. No, you don't have to have front brakes. You can plate a bare frame, the DMV doesn't care what you hang on it.
Some people just prefer to drive a car with a manual. They used to be less expensive to make but I suspect these days that is not longer a factor. Removing one to replace a clutch used to be a 1/2 hour job, now on some models you have to remove the whole engine to access it so you loose the simple to repair advantage. They used to be better on gas too but now with locking torque converters, overdrive, and computer controls I bet 9 times out of 10 the auto is going to get better mileage.
Most modern makers are going to automatic type trans and there is a mass of those out there, and a mass away from simple place in d and go after all these also differ per vehicle as many auto type boxes offer extra controls over how the box changes and to what sort of condition may it be bad weather to a track feel of the box and so on. So people are happy with stick although i have never found driving stick hard as you could train a monkey to push a stick backwards and forwards, but it does seem like stick shift is going out now . Even years ago many makers felt there cars better suited an auto type trans but people find it hard to adjust. So the age of more fun and better control is silly in many ways now as a 1.0l manual Ford Escort is not going to be more fun than a Auto type Bugatti Veryron and with new auto type boxes offering these extra controls by buttons or just through the pedal it gives a whole new in touch control over the car.also mpg after it seemed almost silly when automatics where said to be getting worse mpg as they would change early to give you more mpg whilst say my friend for instance his car got more mpg than my auto but he would drive his manual at 6000 revs ever where and hence getting less mpg.
Just remember, front brakes are a GOOD thing to have!
