For the best answers, search on this site shorturl.im/av15Y Chere, No harm done. Just make sure before cold weather gets here you have your coolant *freeze point tested with an inexpensive coolant tester from any auto parts store.
You can just buy a K N Stock replacement. You will get a lil improvement but it will be small numbers, and people say they notice it but really it's not really noticeable unless your are really really concentrating at it. You want a performance gain then get your cams grinded, you will notice a big gain. On take off and at high rpms. Longer lift time, will gain performance. Ask any licensed mechanic or automotive engineer, and they will tell you an exhaust and intake dont compare to getting the cams grinded.
It is true that the KN Intake will have a lower tone the other steel intakes, it will be louder then the current stock intake. your stock intake has a closed box with a resonator on it so it will give off the least amount of sound possible. The KN completely replaces the Filter box and this resonator. You will have a definite increase in sound volume. Now if you just get a KN filter to replace in side the factory box you will get a performance increase. May not be as much as a whole intake system. But it will give you an increase.
All intakes are about the same (brand name or not). The reason is that the factory airbox is so restrictive that just about any air intake will improve on it. The car designers need to do that because of noise restrictions. As for plastic, what they are saying is that their air intake reduce noise compared to OTHER aftermarket intakes. ALL aftermarket intakes are noticeably louder than factory (at high RPM). At normal to medium RPM they can pass for stock. Good Luck. P.S. I own 94 Civic with aftermarket intakes.
Draining it and flushing with purified water (no tap water in cooling systems, ever) should do it. Don't put it off - winter windshield washer fluid contains a lot of methanol, which corrodes aluminum (see the first source). A small amount wouldn't be a big concern but 3L is a lot. I presume you had room for that much fluid because the Impala uses a surge tank, which should never be full to the top, just to the full line.
