Question:

I want to get ceramic braces but are they better than metal and work the same?

So, I‘m hoping to get my braces on before September and I was wondering if I were to get ceramic ones, would they have the same results as the metal ones? I really want the ceramic ones because they look more appealing and and a lot of my friends are getting their braces off and im about to begin so yeah. i would prefer the clear ones. if there are any people who have had experience w/ clear/ceramic please let me know, tips, how to get the best results would be much appreciated. thanks so much!

Answer:

Ceramic brackets work the same way with metal brackets. The only difference is that they can be rigid and can feel like you have stones glued to your teeth, but then after awhile after you get over the feeling and pressure, you won't feel a thing. Another thing is that people claim the brackets are easy to break and are very delicate, that is not true, these brackets aren't delicate, they are very hard and are not often placed on the bottom teeth, people with over or underbites cause these brackets can chip the overlapping tooth overtime. Another thing is that the bracket's ligatures can stain over time, though this problem can be fixed at your monthly adjustments, the brackets don't stain but the rings that hold the archwires do. Overall ceramic brackets are very good, perfect for people who want to keep their treatment very unnoticeable as possible and are more easier to adjust to.

hey! so I have ceramic braces and yes, they work exactly the same and you will get the same results. if your treatment time is say 2 years, it wont make a difference if you have ceramic or metal. how do i know this? one, i did a crap load of research before i got my ceramic braces and two, i asked my ortho right before i got them on. now, in terms on aesthetics.they really do look A LOT better than metal. now when i say that i mean that they are simply less noticeable. when a person smiles you don't see a bunch of metal and honestly, it has taken a couple months for some people to even know that i have them on. it's not as if you are hiding the fact that you wear braces, they just are not so crazy obvious and they blend in better. I can't even tell you how happy i am that i got ceramics. they work EXACTLY the same as metal. before i got mine on I read on some web sites that the brackets were not as strong as metal. that is simply not true. unless you are chewing on rocks it makes no difference. I personally have had mine on for a year now and have had zero problems. one big thing that i kept on reading about before i got mine were that they stain. there are a lot of misconceptions on this on so here is the real deal: the ceramic BRACKETS do NOT stain. what can stain are the clear BANDS that go around the wire to keep the wire on the brackets. these little bands get changed every month. in terms of staining it's not some crazy yellow stain. you cannot even tell as it all blends in with your teeth so much.you can get around that by just having grey on the little bands if you want although i have always stuck with clear as they have never stained for me. all in all, i say get the ceramic ones. they look so so so much better than metal if the metal look is what bothers you. i am really happy with mine and would recommend them to anyone! don't let anyone tell you that they don't do as good of a job or that they take longer; it's simply not true. hope that helped!
I have ceramic ones on the top and metal ones on the bottom and they work the exact same. I've never had any ceramic brackets break off but a few metal brackets have broken off during tightening appointments, so they're just as strong. The only downside to ceramic is that the elastic ligatures (elastics) that they put on them stain easily if you eat things that are really tomato-y like tomato sauces or curry. You just have to watch what you eat and how you eat it and try to brush if you eat something that will stain them and you'll be okay. Even though they are a bit more work, I'm happy that I got the ceramic ones, especially since I'm almost 17 and braces wouldn't look that great. Good luck with your choice!
