the place is pretty secure, I'm just concerned if the jack stands are reliable enough to withstand that amount of time. What do you think?
I would hope so, since professional jack stands rated to support your vehicle are what my life depends on when I crawl under the car to do servicing. If I trust my life with them while I'm under the car, I'd trust them when I'm not under the car. No where does it say they can only support the weight for a given time. Of course the floor can't give way, and the jack stands have to be placed properly and not rust etc.
Certainly. A cheap set of jack sands will be rated at 1,000 lbs or more of weight. This means 4 of them can easily support 4,000lbs. I own a 1997 Dodge Intrepid. It's a big 4 door luxury car and it weighs only 3,400 lbs. Check under the hood and on the drivers door for your cars data plate. It will tell you how much your car weighs. Unless you own an armor plated vehicle or a 1949 Buick it will weigh less than you think. The only thing you have to worry about is your car falling off the stands. Set your stands as low as possible to get your tires off the ground. This way if it falls it will be a very short distance. If you have steel belted radials on your car you are worried about nothing. I have had cars with radials parked for as long as a year with no permanent damage. Flat spots develop but just a few miles of driving, enough to warm up the tires, and they work themselves out. The only problem is if your car is parked on dirt. Over time the tires will sink into the ground forming low spots that collect water and will rot your tires. To solve this problem simply put pieces of 2x6 boards about 1 1/2 to 2 feet long under each tire. This will keep it from sinking into the ground. Also, if your jack stands are on dirt you must put boards under them to keep them from sinking into the ground. This can cause your car to fall off the stands. Hope this helps. Good luck.
Place the stands carefully and as long as they are rated to hold that much weight, don't worry.
Yes, but I don't think it's necessary for 3-4 month layover. Your tires are not going to get flat spots in that length of time.
if the jack stands are 2 ton stands they will be fine, you could leave the car in the air forever.
