Copper pipe is easy to work with once you've figured out how to solder, which isn't difficult, but if you want pipe of any size at all, it's going to be kind of expensive, and the smaller sizes of pipe will bend if they're in long pieces and they have stuff hanging from them so design might be an issue here.
Look at using PVC pipe painted with copper looking spray paint. (1) It's going to be WAY cheaper and (2) it's going to be MUCH lighter to hang. Depends on how elaborate you want to get. PVC is easy to work with, easy to cut. Without knowing exactly what look you're going for it's hard to advise further.
